GDH is seeking a Disaster Recovery Manager for a contract to hire opportunity located in Montgomery, AL.

Project Description/ Tasks Specification

The resource contracted shall be required to report to the Director of Infrastructure section of Operations or the designee and perform Disaster Recovery planning and tasks as assigned in accordance with standards, regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures and industry best business practices. 

These tasks will include working with Agency personnel, project managers, vendors, and agency/customer staff to gather and finalize requirements for all systems that utilize DR systems and/or service. The resource will be required to assist in designing, developing, implementing, testing, maintaining, and sustaining a Disaster Recovery system/process as required to protect those datasets/systems that have been determined to need protection and to notify appropriate personnel when the Disaster Recovery is unable to meet the standard. 

Resource contracted should also have a technical understanding of the primary underlying technologies for our client include Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Windows 2008/2012, and VMware server virtualization.

DR Tasks Include but are not limited to:

  •        Responsible for creating the Disaster Recovery Plan
  •        Managing the entire course of the disaster recovery process
  •        Implementing and monitoring policies and procedures ensuring the overall integrity of the DR system
  •        Collaborate with agency staff
  •         Plan and integrate the disaster recovery functions of IT for the Enterprise
  •         Perform project reporting duties as assigned or needed
  •        Perform risk analysis for all data to determine vulnerable points in the system and establish strategies for risk mitigation
  •         Develop service level recovery standards
  •        Tasked with execution of the recovery planning and process
  •        Establish testing methodologies
  •         Coordinates, monitors and evaluates execution of DR test plans
  •         Manages the contracts with required vendors for off-site DR
  •         This contract resource shall assist in the design and development of Disaster Recovery solutions as a Disaster Recovery Manager working with designated Agency Coordinators, Agency IT Management and Staff, and other staff as designated by the Agency. The organization responsibilities shall also include working with or assisting other agencies and their designated coordinators as assigned.

The scope of services for the individual designated as a Disaster Recovery Manager include the following duties and tasks:

  •        Documenting and tracking risks and issues
  •         Task coordination activities between State and Contractor(s) staff
  •         Task reporting as assigned or needed
  •         Document current systems and interdependencies
  •        Work with the staff to define task work breakdown structures, milestones and scope
  •         Develops and deploys training, documentation, and communication of disaster procedures to the organization
  •         Schedule, coordinate, supervise and document DR testing and corrective actions
  •         Maintain documentation and brief auditors as needed 

The Contract resource shall have the following skills /experience level:

  •       Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience
  •         Previous DR management experience, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong ability to work in a team environment
  •         7+ years in IT (programming, server management, etc.)
  •         7+ years developing and testing DR plans
  •         7+ years managing personnel
  •         Certification in DR Coordination/Management or (equivalent experience)
  •       2 or more years of experience having led Disaster Recovery efforts previously including the planning and execution
  •         Familiarization with DR Plan Building tools such as AssuranceCM
